It’s time to leave 2020 behind and enter 2021 with a new sense of style. Remodeling the home is an exciting way to do just that. It may be time for a design consultation to help you start thinking about different design layouts; like that sleek countertop you’ve been drooling over, or floors that leave you floored, or even colors that are as bright as the new year ahead of you. Even if you’re not quite ready for a design consultation, we’ve got some colorful ideas for you.
Psychology of Color
People have associated color with their emotions for countless centuries, particularly after Sir Isaac Newton discovered the seven hues (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet) while experimenting with light and prisms. These associations have even made their way into casual conversations. You’ve likely heard the phrases “feeling blue”, “green with envy”, or “life isn’t just black and white” more than once. Well, it’s no “pigment” of your imagination- the colors we surround ourselves with have a genuine effect on our moods, productivity, stress levels, and more. For example, the color blue evokes feelings of serenity, ideal for anyone looking to incorporate more relaxation in day-to-day life. Conversely, bright reds inspire high energy and passion, adding sparks of vibrance to sometimes mundane routines.
If your home is in need of sunny vibes with a hint of grounding practicality, Pantone’s power duo of 2021, Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Grey, are the way to go. Yellows and golds are known for inciting warmth and enthusiasm, perfect for cozy social gatherings and busy mornings. Shades of grey complement this atmosphere by bringing contemplation and inner strength to the table. Illuminating walls with grey trim may be exactly the balance you need.
A Palette of Options
The walls aren’t the only part of an abode that can be recolored. Many homeowners with neutral counters and cabinets use vibrant tiles to counteract the monotony while still leaving a degree of blank canvas for future changes. For instance, a kitchen with beige cabinets may benefit from lively lime-green floors, or lavender tiles behind the stove to make the room pop.
In some cases, using a small array of complimenting colors throughout your living environment instead of one or two shades can be pleasing to the eye and inspire creativity- as long as you don’t go overboard, which can cause a room to become overwhelming.
Pantone released a few palettes for 2021 that suit such purposes wonderfully. Their color schemes “Summer Bouquet” and “Intoxicating” are mostly comprised of gentle pastels that mingle without drawing too much from the room.
Whatever hues you choose, remember to have fun with it! The remodeling journey is just as exciting as the destination. If you’re planning a home remodel for your bathroom or kitchen, contact us today and schedule a design consultation with our cabinetry experts.
