COVID-19 has affected every part of life and the building industry is no exception. We’re taking a look at how it’s impacting the construction industry and how it might affect your quarantine home projects.
COVID-19 has affected every part of our daily lives. Every industry from travel and hospitality to grocery and retail have been affected by the pandemic. Believe it or not, COVID-19 has also affected our industry—remodeling and construction. We’re working through it and coming up with solutions, but here are a few challenges you might run into if you’re planning a home project soon.
Shutdown of Manufacturing & Production
Our business—and others like it—had to shut down due to state guidelines for COVID-19, causing many projects to be postponed or rescheduled. Over the course of the last two months, we’ve all been playing the catch-up game with our projects and so have our cabinet-suppliers like Fabuwood, Legacy Crafted Cabinets, and Holiday Kitchens. These companies were closed for a period of time as well and with businesses opening back up with a boom, they’re doing their best to keep production on par with demand.
Shortage of Supplies
Everyone has heard about the hand sanitizer shortage and seen the empty toilet paper shelves, but those are just two examples of supplies that were next-to-impossible to find at some point during the pandemic. Currently, the next two big-ticket items that are in scarce supply are coins and lumber.
Our business is especially affected by the ongoing shortage of lumber in the U.S. Stores across the nation are reporting shortages of lumber and pressure-treated wood. This is due to two things: lumber mills slowing their production during the pandemic (or stopping it altogether), and the number of people stuck at home the past few months who started home projects and remodeling.
Be Prepared, Plan Ahead
If you’ve been whipping up some great ideas and visions of a new kitchen or bathroom during quarantine, don’t wait. You should get started on your home project as soon as possible, planning for the potential pitfalls, shortages, and delays that can impact your project.
It looks like COVID-19 will be around for a while, but we want to assure all of our clients that we are still here and working for you. We are working within the safety guidelines from the state and making sure our on-site teams are staying as safe as possible (for them and for you!).
We are happy to say our showroom is open (with safe social distancing measures in place) and we are working with our customers again to bring them kitchens, bathrooms, and cabinets that they love. We have not run into a shortage from our supplies and are working diligently to ensure that doesn’t happen. Despite the uncertain times, there will always be one thing that will never change: our dedication to our customers.
